Volunteer with us!

Come and spend a week on the Ningaloo Reef with us! Our volunteer program provides visitors from around the world the opportunity to experience working onboard a leading eco-tour on the World Heritage listed Ningaloo Reef.

We offer two options for your week with us.

OPTION ONE: VOLUNTEER ONBOARD OUR TOUR BOAT FOR A WEEK FOR $240

Experience working onboard our tour boat, as part of a committed team of friendly and passionate marine eco-tourism professionals. You will learn the ‘behind the scenes’ work required to deliver our world-class whale shark and whale shark tours.

What’s included for this price:

  • Morning and afternoon snorkels on the Ningaloo Reef daily during your week with us! This also includes snorkelling with manta rays if we come across them.
  • All food (daily morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea) and snorkelling equipment.
  • Transport to and from Exmouth to the Tantabiddi boat ramp, where our tours depart.
  • All onboard training and resources
  • Insurance whilst working as part of our team
  • Your own volunteer t-shirt to wear during the week and to take home with you.
  • All photos taken by our professional photographer during your volunteer week.
  • Join an afternoon scuba dive if you’re a certified SCUBA diver or upgrade to a DSD course if you’d like to learn.

IMPORTANT – Although the option may present itself, choosing Option One does NOT guarantee you a whale shark or whale shark swim during your week volunteering with us given our daily licensing limits. If swimming with a whale shark is important to you, please choose OPTION TWO below.

OPTION TWO: VOLUNTEER ONBOARD OUR TOUR BOAT FOR A WEEK, INCLUDING A GUARANTEED WHALE SHARK SWIM FOR $730!

Booking Option Two grants you all the inclusions from Option One PLUS a guaranteed whale shark swim by booking you on as a passenger on our whale shark during your stay. Once booked, we will contact you to organise your desired tour date. As a paying passenger, you will get the same opportunities and guarantees as the other paying guests for our whaleshark tour.

We highly recommend booking this option if swimming with a whale shark is your main goal for this volunteering experience.

Additional Information

Typical volunteer tasks include: pre- and post-tour preparations, food preparations and dishes. It is important to note that volunteers are not onboard to do the work for our crew. They are simply here to learn ‘behind the scenes’ of a tour, whilst enjoying the benefits of joining our tour every day, including stunning scenery, daily adventurous reef snorkels and amazing wildlife encounters!

Things you need to know before booking:

  • Our volunteers need to meet our crew every morning looking professional with a great attitude and ready to work. You are representing the Ningaloo Whaleshark brand and reputation whilst onboard with us. We reserve the right to end your volunteer week due to poor attitude or unsafe behaviours.
  • Accommodation is NOT included. You will need to organise this in advance as it can sell out quickly. The Potshot Resort and backpackers is the closest accommodation to our office and your morning meeting point.
  • You must be over the age of 18 to volunteer. If you are under 18, please reach out to us first for prior approval.
  • You must be fluent in the English language to communicate with staff and guests.
  • Be prepared to work long hours. We meet at 6.15am every day and can get back to town between 3-5pm.
  • Our normal cancellation policy applies for volunteer bookings if you cannot make your volunteer week. These can be found in our terms and conditions.
