Advanced Eco Tourism
Ningaloo Whalesharks are proud recipients of an "Advanced Ecotourism" certification from Ecotourism Australia. We were proud to be the first whale shark tour operator to be awarded this accreditation, which recognises our commitment and professionalism in the way we run our whale shark cruises and our whale shark cruise company.
The accreditation confirms that Ningaloo Whaleshark Swim is dedicated to the conservation of the environment, and maintains this commitment throughout all aspects of our whale shark tour and diving operations. As an operator, it recognises the level of support and contribution Ningaloo Whalesharks makes to our local community. And it acknowledges our efforts to increase knowledge, awareness and commitment to the amazing natural environment of the Ningaloo Reef, and providing ongoing opportunities to our guests to learn more about this environment.
Formed in 1991, Ecotourism Australia being a non-profit organization gave ecotourism the following definition:
"Ecotourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation".
The ECO Certification logo is a globally recognized brand which assists travelers to choose and experience a genuine and authentic tour, attraction, cruise or accommodation that is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. The ECO Certification program assures travelers that certified products are backed by a strong, well managed commitment to sustainable practices and provides high quality nature-based tourism experiences.”
The vision we share with Ecotourism Australia is to:
"To be leaders in assisting ecotourism and other committed tourism operations to become environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and socially and culturally responsible".
